Melanie M. Earl Director of Annual Funds, Missouri State University Foundation
7 years of service
I ask people everyday to support students and programs at Missouri State University. I couldn’t do that if I didn’t believe in helping and making a difference myself. I remember how much I struggled with financing my college education and I want to help students – even in the smallest way.

Everyone has their special ways to help others, since I have been privileged to work with such special students, faculty, alumni and friends; it is only natural that I choose this university as an outlet for my gifts of time, effort and money. There is a custom in my heritage that as one accepts help along life’s way, one is obligated to help others. I certainly have benefited from scholarships and special help from committed teachers. Therefore, I feel good when I can in a small way pay back through my acts of giving.

I give back to the University just as a thank you for all that it has done for me in the past such as the enjoyment we get out of Tent Theatre. I’m glad that I can be of assistance, even in a small way.

I am proud to be part of the Missouri State University community and participating in the university's annual giving program provides me an opportunity to give back to the institution that is an important part of my life. It is an extremely satisfying feeling to be able to see students on a daily basis and know that my gift amount is in some small way helping them achieve their educational goals.

My husband and I have supported the university in a variety of ways and are grateful that we can give in a way that makes a difference for students and employees. We have given money, time and effort over the past 23 years and believe that if everyone gave something back to Missouri State, we would be amazed at the future benefits for all!

I work in the area of fundraising for the University, so I am keenly aware of the importance of private funds. I also am able to see the many benefits Missouri State reaps from those funds - whether it's a one-time gift of a million dollars or a $10 gift given every year.....every penny counts and is greatly appreciated! I truly enjoy being involved in making a difference in the lives of students who, otherwise, without my help, would not be able to receive a college education.

As an alumnus of the University, I thought that it was important to help an outstanding student or two meet the financial burdens of college. Knowing that I provided financial support to help the future alumni of the University was a rewarding feeling. Perhaps those individuals will help someone else in the future.

I believe we all have a philanthropic responsibility to give back to society through donations, volunteering and simply helping a neighbor. I chose to give back to Missouri State University because I believe that education is the only real hope we have for dealing with the cultural and social challenges we face. By contributing to a scholarship fund in the College of Education the impact of resources I contribute is magnified when combined with those of other donors.

I believe in the University and I believe in sharing with others. I really enjoy the Scholarship Awards Ceremony where we meet the student recipients of the scholarship that we contribute to. It is so nice to see the student you are helping and we have received some really nice letters over the years. It really makes us feel good that we are helping others
